In addition to a B.A. in Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.A. from Claremont Graduate University, Phyllis has elementary and secondary teaching credentials.
She has taught basic skills and adult education and specializes in teaching learning/study skills in the Learning and Academic Resources Department. Phyllis is a certified trainer of learning styles and learner diversity. |

Hi! I am a teacher because I love learning and seeing students succeed in reaching their personal and educational goals. My academic background is in English, ESL and Linguistics with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in those areas from CSULB. I’ve taught at LBCC for more than 12 years and love working here.
I was born in Long Beach and am a graduate of a community college. My personal passions include spending time with my family, art, N.Y. Times crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, gardening and doing my part to protect our beautiful planet. |

Blaire received her A.A. from Long Beach City College, her B.A. from University of California Irvine, and will be completing her Masters of Education in Reading January 2008 from the University of LaVerne. She taught in Long Beach public schools for 15 years, 3 years as a reading specialist. Blaire has been an instructor in the Academic Support and Development department at LBCC since 2003. |

Anthony has an Associate of Arts Degree from Cypress College and Bachelor's and Master's of Arts degrees from California State University at Long Beach. He is fluent in Spanish and a Clinical Hypnotherapist, certified by the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. |

Barbara has been helping students achieve their goals here in the Adult Success Center for 14 years. Before that, she received her BA in English and her MS in Education with a specialty in Reading from California State University, Fullerton. She has taught reading, study skills, and English at Cypress College, Cerritos College, and here at LBCC. She has also tutored privately and worked as a Tutor Trainer. In addition, she taught reading in the English Skills Center for many years before moving to Academic Support and Development. |

A native of Hawaii, Casey graduated from the University of Hawaii with a B.A. in Psychology. He received his M.A. from CSULB in Administration and worked for the Long Beach Unified School District as a principal, counselor and teacher for 34 years. He also served in the U.S. Army and Reserves for 28 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He has taught Academic Support and Development at LBCC since 1970.
When he's not teaching, Casey enjoys the outdoors, nature, camping, traveling, learning, being a cowboy, farming and tennis. He owns and operates the Shim Coffee, Protea, and Botanical Farm in Utopia (Kula, Maui). Casey invites you to come to the Success Center and improve your life and wants you to remember that every day is special! |

Welcome to the Success Center! As a professional educator, I have been preparing all my life to assist you in obtaining your GED or improving your academic skills. I attended Long Beach schools as a child and the returned after obtaining bachelor and master's degrees so that I could teach and become an administrator in those same schools. I have been an instructor in the Adult Success Center since 1978. Outside of education, I enjoy snow skiing, bike riding, working on my classic Jaguar and traveling with my wife. |
