Supplemental Learning Assistance Questions and Answers
Q. What is Supplemental Learning Assistance?
A. Supplemental Learning Assistance (SLA) describes course required activities facilitated by a Success Center. The activities are designed to prepare you for and reinforce essential concepts covered in the course.
Q. What do SLA activities consist of?
A. SLA activities consist of:
Directed Learning Activities (DLA) - Specific activities that consist of an independent study portion and a one-on-one review session with a Success Center professional. The independent portion is designed to take approximately 45 minutes to complete (in most cases) and the review session will last approximately 15 minutes, however, there is no time limit and session times may vary if the center is busy. Success Center professionals will be available to assist you with questions while you work on your activities.
Workshops - 60 minute interactive, small group sessions that are taught by faculty. The workshops cover topics related to your course.
Directed Study Groups (DSG) - Structured small-group study sessions led by Success Center professionals.
Q. How do I complete the SLA requirement?
A. Bring your photo ID to the Success Center and complete the following steps:
Complete the specific activities listed on your course syllabus (or select activities from a Success Center list).
After completion of the activity, meet with a Success Center professional who will sign your verification form.
Have the front desk staff put the official stamp of completion on the verification form.
