Purpose/Content of the Assessment Test.

The purpose of the college assessment test is to identify the reading, writing and math skill levels of LBCC students so that they will enroll in the appropriate courses and have a better chance of success.

The assessment test consists of four sections. They are:

  • Reading Comprehension - Possible placements range from Reading 880 to Reading Proficiency Met for Graduation.
  • Writing (Sentence Skills) - Possible placements range from English 801A to English 1.
  • Math - Possible placements range from Math 805 to Math 60. Students are not allowed to use their own calculators for any       part of the test.
  • Essay


  • The reading, writing and mathematics portions of the test are conducted on Accuplacer computerized software. The essay is a handwritten composition in response to a topic.

    Test Preparation Assistance Available.

    The PCC Multidisciplinary Success Center offers assistance to students who would like to prepare for the tests.

    An informal evaluation is provided which can help students determine their preparedness for the tests and pinpoint areas where a review of skills is needed. After the initial evaluation, students will receive individualized assignments and instruction that will help them brush up on their specific areas of need.

    LBCC assessment test preparation requires enrollment in BAE 601A. This course is free, non-credit and open-entry/open-exit, so students can enroll or exit at any time.
