The Learning Center does not look like the kind of classroom you may be used to. There are numerous study carrels and tables to accommodate approximately 133 students at one time. We are located in the same building as the library, so a quiet but congenial and informal learning atmosphere is maintained to the greatest extent possible. There is at least one instructor, but usually two instructors, available to students at all times. In addition, students are also assisted in the use of the various books, computers and instructional materials by a staff of full-time instructional aides as well as a part-time staff of student tutors.
We have a great deal of instructional software available for use on the 39 computers available in the Learning Center, including the latest web-based version of PLATO, a reading, writing, and math learning system. We also have electronic math facts learning devices, print

| enlarging software for the visually impaired and special programs to assist students in developing the phonics skills necessary for efficient reading and spelling. We also have a limited amount of listening and language software to help those for whom English is a second language. Our ever-expanding library of instructional materials allows us to tailor each student’s learning experience to fit his or her exact needs and goals.
