College Assessment tests (also called the SOAR) determine a student’s level placement English reading and writing and mathematics classes. One way you can prepare for these tests is to familiarize yourself with the concepts tested here in the Learning Center.
There are 3 math placement tests: Algebra Readiness (basic math, fractions, decimals, positive and negative numbers, percents, exponents, roots and geometry), Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. Students choose which test they want to take. Each test is for a specific level of math skills and will determine which math class and which level you start in.
The Learning Center can also help you prepare for the Reading assessment test, which measures four main areas of reading comprehension: main ideas, inference, specific details, and words in context. Our materials and instruction can help you understands these concepts and give you practice reading and answering questions of this nature.
The Writing assessment test consists of both multiple choice questions and an essay. We can help you brush up on the academic essay writing conventions and English grammar tested.
